Inspiration:
Freedom over fear lyrics & melody was created in the wilds of County Kerry Ireland in 2021. I lived in the area of Sneem in Kerry when I was young. I had come from a town in Dorset UK with my mum and little sister to the wilds of Kerry. I felt such freedom & flow of creativity in the wilds like never before, but this was also a time in my life that I felt enormous fear. Domestic violence was present in our little family by my mother’s partner, and we were isolated and vulnerable. In 2021, 34 years later I returned to the same area with my mum, my grown-up sister & my eldest daughter. It was lovely to be there with them all, but it was also challenging, and I hardly slept whilst there. One morning on a wild and windy day, I found myself barefoot on the edge of the ocean, waves crashing and murmuring. Carrying this fear of threat and lack of safety has been present since I was young, and returning was heavy, I found the words in this song and called out to the strong, capable, and massive ocean. I did not want to carry this heaviness anymore and I felt so sure that the ocean was strong enough to handle my fear. I sang these words as I handed my fear over to the sea.
